Who owns the Domain Name I register with PhutureNet?
You do! We register the domain name with InterNIC with you as the administrative contact.
If anyone tries to move the domain or change any information on the form, they will contact you first.
We are listed as the Technical, Zone and Billing contact on the domain.
What does the fee cover?
InterNIC charges $100 for two years of service and $50/year therafter.
PhutureNet charges you the $100 and becomes responsible to NIC for the fee.
Domain's that move to PhutureNet from another provider, we register you as the billing contact and let you deal with NIC directly,
since more than likely you've paid the fee already.
What about Trademarks?
NIC has taken a hand's off approach to handling prior and pending trademark names when registering new domain names.
In most trademark cases, an infringement can take place with words that sound similar, are spelled slightly different, etc.
With NIC you can have a trademarked name in your domain and they will register it to you without doing any search.
But, and that's a big but, they will let the courts decide if your domain name could belong to another company/user.
Not very good news if you spend lots of time and energy promoting your domain name to have someone come out of the
woodwork and try take your domain name. There are several court cases pending that could change how NIC awards domains.
How long does it take for a new Domain Name to register or move?
Registering a domain name can take anywhere from 2 hours - 4 weeks depending on the load at InterNIC.
We suggest you hold off printing those business cards and letterhead until you know for sure that you're registered.
(I'm speaking from experience!).
Moving a domain is a little more complicated but takes about the same amount of time.
We need to setup our end to function perfectly, enter the domain in our name servers and
basically have everything ready before contacting your old service provider.
Then we graciously ask to have the domain transferred and hope they'll proceed in a timely manner.
If you have good relationship with your old provider, it might help speed things up.
What about .org, .net, .ca, & .us domain extensions? Can I register for them as well? What are the restrictions?
Yes, we will process your request in the same manner as a .com domain names. There are certain restrictions regarding these domains that we
hope to post on seperate page on our site. But until then, you can look at InterNIC's home page and read more
than you can handle about domain registration.
How long does it take for the world to see a new domain name?
Once approved and registered with InterNIC, it can take upwards of 2 weeks to update around the globe.
So while you may be able to see it with your web browser, your next door neighbor might not because of
the domain name server their system uses. Most domain name servers are programmed to get domain
name updates only once a day at a predetermined time. It's kinda like a giant game of phone tag, sure
everyone was in their office all day, you just called a few minutes late for that day's update; hence the 2 weeks.
