Domain Web Account
Domain Name Registration
A unique domain name is the vanity license plate of the Internet. For example http://www.yourdomain.com is a unique domain name.
Having a domain name is important for most businesses. Not only does it give you a slick professional image, it also allows you to move
your web site to another server without changing your web address. It's a way to make your site stand out without showing that your site is
actually on someone else's server. Currently the InterNIC charges $100 to register your domain name and covers 2 years of use which we
include in our initial fee. Subsequent years are $50/yr and are the responsiblity of the customer. We can either set up your new domain name
or move your existing domain name. Either way, you are assured that this is a true virtual hosting, with each account assigned an individual
IP number.
Some service providers take a short cut and assign each domain the same IP number and
give directory information to resolve the URL.
(i.e. http://www.yourdomain.com/yourname/index.html) This is NOT acceptble, be aware of imitations.

Currently, PhutureNet will just register top level NIC domains.
We are looking into ways to host other top level domains, but

Here is the current top level domain list:
- .COM is for commercial, for-profit organizations.
- .NET is for network infrastructure machines and organizations.
- .EDU is for 4-year, degree granting colleges/universities.
(schools, libraries, museums register under country domains)
- .GOV is for United States federal government agencies.
(state and local governments register under country domains)
- .ORG is for miscellaneous, usually non-profit, organizations.
(orgs/individuals that do not clearly fit in any of the above)
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
The Basics: File Transfer Protocol's (FTP) job is to move files from one computer to another.
It doesn't matter where the two computers are located, how they are connected, or even whether
they use the same operating system. As long as both computers speak the FTP language and
have access to the Internet, you can use FTP commands to transfer files.
FTP is the method you will transfer your web documents to PhutureNet's server so they appear on the web.
The most often used method to access FTP sites is 'Anonymous FTP'. But PhutureNet assigns your web site
directory a unique user name and password to protect your documents from harm. You will utilize an FTP
client software listed on our resource pages to transfer all your files (i.e. html, gif, jpg, wav, etc.)
How we're different: We give you access to your account so you can change web content 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Youre in control and don't have to rely on your Internet Service Provider to finally 'get around to it' to update your
site! With PhutureNet, once you've uploaded your web page changes, they are immediately available on the Internet.
